Thirty new homes – including affordable housing to rent or buy – could be built at Mylor, in the west of the county.
Under the Devon & Cornwall Housing scheme, a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties would provide much-needed homes for local families on land adjacent to Bells Hill in the village. Twenty will be affordable homes, with a further ten available on the open market.
The homes – which are expected to be completed in two years if the scheme gets the go-ahead – will be energy efficient to reduce heat loss and carbon emissions from the buildings and minimise running costs.
Jon Julian, Senior Development Officer at DCH, said: “The development will provide local homes for local people – enabling them to continue to live in the community where they have grown up.
“There are currently over 40 households on the housing register who have a local connection to Mylor and are looking for an affordable home in the parish, so there is a clear need for a development of this type.”
The affordable homes will be managed by Penwith Housing Association, part of DCH group.
The partners are inviting local people to attend a public consultation about the proposals and to share their views on the design and layout of the scheme.
The event will take place at Tremayne Hall, Mylor, on Wednesday, 22 February, from 3-7pm.
Representatives from DCH will be on hand to advise on affordable housing and how to apply, along with officials from Cornwall Council.
DCH has worked closely with Cornwall Council’s Affordable Housing Team and has attended three Parish Council meetings over the last 18 months to update the local community on their plans to help provide affordable housing for local people.
Similar properties at nearby Flushing gained a royal seal of approval when the Princess Royal visited recently to see the positive difference that affordable homes make to local communities.
