Registration starts at 1.30 pm, and the dog show for pooches of all shapes and sizes, will start at 2.30 pm. There will also be a dog agility display team, the 'Canine Capers Display Team,' showing off their acrobatic skills. People and their pets who fancy their chances at tackling the course will also be able to have a go for a small fee.
Vicki Dunstone, Resident Involvement Manager for Tor Homes said: “We have organised an annual garden competition for several years and this year, our residents asked us to organise a day out for responsible pet owners instead.
“We have arranged for a variety of animal organisations and charities to be on hand, together with South Hams District Council’s dog warden to offer advice and guidance on keeping a pet and the local charity ‘Animals in Distress’ will act as our judges, seeking the top dog in each class.”
There are twelve classes including dog with the waggiest tail, best smooth coat, best cross breed, best British breed, best child handler and many more. Local butchers, Lidstones, have sponsored the 'Fastest sausage eater' class. Doggy treats will also be on offer thanks to Trago Mills and the Endsleigh Garden Centre.
The housing association will be taking the opportunity to consult with residents on proposed changes to its Pet Policy which aims to incorporate best practice in promoting animal welfare; recognising the health benefits that well cared for pets can bring. They have also arranged for a cut-price deal on identification chipping.
The association has also organised a Pets' Corner and Tor Homes’ residents have been asked to send in photos of their furry, scaly and feathered companions. People are asked not to bring along the pet to Pets’ Corner – just send in a photo with name and address and people attending the event will vote on their favourite in each category.
