‘Dreamscheme’ harnesses Dartmouth children’s community spirit
Affordable housing provider Tor Homes, part of Devon & Cornwall Housing group, has teamed up with Townstal Community Partnership, Townstal Youth Club, Guinness Hermitage, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and police community support officers to put on the Dreamscheme day on Wednesday 10 August at Townstal Community Hall at 10.00 am.

Dreamscheme is a national initiative which aims to inspire and enable communities to release the potential of their young people. Youngsters in Townstal, Dartmouth will be taking part in the scheme that rewards their community spirit with fun activities. After a successful pilot project last year, it was decided to open it up to more areas.
Vicki Dunstone, Resident Involvement Manager for Tor Homes said: “The children at the Townstal Youth Club are really excited about this scheme. They will be potting up planters to hand over to residents at Dartmouth’s sheltered housing scheme at Holdsworth House and have also come up with the generous idea of baking cakes. They will be delivering their culinary efforts to the residents of the sheltered housing scheme at Churchill Court, Dartmouth. As a reward for their hard work, the young people will be taken to Bantham beach on Friday 12 August for games, ice cream and fish ‘n’ chips.”
A number of local businesses have supported the initiative, including Dartmouth’s Sainsbury’s supermarket and Gardentime of Dartmouth.
In addition to potting up planters, the youngsters will be varnishing benches at the Townstal Community Hall, weeding and doing a community car wash with the aid of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue service.
Jane Randles, Tor Homes’ Customer & Community Contact Manager explains: “The project gives young people the chance to use their energy both for the benefit of their community and for themselves. Other groups in the country have reported improved communications and relationships between residents. We are grateful to the local businesses who have got involved and made this possible.”
